Every summer we organize a fun community event that challenges runners and hikers to push their limits and spend time on the trails of Labrador!
An honorary event for 2026
Join Minipi Outfitters and our community to honour the great Dean Burden. Dean passed away on April 11th, 2026 after battling Glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
Dean had a strong passion for sports, especially running, he competed in several marathons and ultra marathons, including the Minipi Doom Mountain 50 in 2021. Each year on his birthday he would run a kilometre for every year of his age. His last run was 58 km.
Nicknamed "One Shot Burden" by the local youth, Dean was known for always pushing himself to be the best he could be, while always being a positive mentor to others.

A backyard ultra is an ultra marathon in which participants repeatedly run a 6.706-kilometer loop every hour, on the hour. Dean's Backyard Ultra will follow this format for 9 hours. There will be two distances to choose from, to accommodate hikers and runners of all abilities.
Registration includes:
- Custom Event Finishers Cup

- Aid Station Snacks and Fuel
-Draw Prizes for every lap
-Salomon Bandana or Cup
-An epic day on the trails!
Race Options:
Burden's Burn:
Take on the BURN and run a ~6.7 km loop, every hour, on the hour. You must be at the start line to begin when the start whistle is blown. Failure to do so will result in elimination. The race will end with the last standing participant, or the fastest lap time on the 9th lap (9 hours). This option can be completed solo or as a team.
Burden's Breeze:
It may not be a total BREEZE, but this option is for those that want to give the Backyard ultra style event a try! The loop will be ~3.3km, starting every hour on the hour. This option can be completed solo or as a team. Come out and enjoy the day!
